a Hat!

I had a fabulous day last weekend spent at the Mid Atlantic Quilt Fest here in town. It's the largest on the east cost and draws in around 10,000 visitors, so really good for tourism here too. I took lots and lots of pictures, so many in fact that I ran out of space on my camera. It was a sensory overload and I was exhausted by the time I had ooooo'd and ahhhhhh'd around for almost four hours. Definitely has me itchin to get stitchin!

As part of the festival I took a class and this is the result. I'll shall be making more of these soon, so if you want one let me know. I can customise the size to fit for those of you who find funky hats hard to find.

Contemporary Art

Well this is a sneak peak of the art piece I've been working on. It is a re purposed salad bowl that Michael has had sitting around for years, the shape of which I fell in love with. This is just the basic structure as I have a lot more to do. Some paint and paint effects, then lots and lots of work with needle thread and some beads.

Now, a couple of weeks ago I was working on a little tag and whilst Michael was having a look I said "Oh it's not finished yet", my dear hubster said ........... and I quote "Oh I know that, there's no bling on it!!!" It feels good to have my life partner know me ohhh soooo well lol!!

So I guess regarding the bowl I will just say ........ It's definitely not finished yet ;o))

Starting over .....

Well I've tried this before, some periods I've been more successful than others, but hey, if at first you don't succeed .....

My aim really is to share all things creative here. It could be paper, fabric or something else, who knows what! I will try and link my old defunct blog because although some it feels like a whole other lifetime ago, there are some creative things on there that might be worth sharing.

OK so here goes ................... first I just want to share a picture, not fantastic quality as it was just snapped with my cellphone (oh how quickly we assimilate, what happened to the mobile ;o). I was feeling might homesick on Christmas day and took a long walk on the local beach. It was cold; freezing! Later that day we got a lot of snow (well masses for the coast of Virginia!). I came across this and it made me smile, another one of those times when I really did think ......"Only in America".

Phew, what a journey!

Well here I am, finally after all the waiting I'm sitting at my desk at "home" in Los Angeles. Sometimes it feels very surreal to be here, settling down with my man. I've had a love affair with the USA since I was at least 18, so actually being here with the man of my dreams is more than any one woman deserves in a lifetime. I am very lucky and blessed. Going to try and keep this blog updated and will start with something more substantial during this week.

Managed to get Skype up and running this morning and connected with most of the family and my best friend so that was great. Very cheap so most definitely the way to continue contact along with this blog, f/book and all that the www offers.

M. is back to work tomorrow and I'll be home alone - wonder what mischief I can get up to lol! Probably nothing more than catching up on much needed sleep, unpacking my cases, and most definitely a little trip to Michael's craft store for some supplies. I did bring just one small bag of stuff with me but I need to make some thankyou cards and I have a 40% off voucher - not that I need an excuse though.

Endings and Beginnings

As one blog closes another opens. Hopefully I'll keep this one updated with my experiences good and bad, my new life, my new home and my soon to be new husband.

Do you ever wonder ......

why you get involved or do certain things? Well these last few weeks I've been wondering that about my photography course. What a rush to the finish line, suffice to say there were some very unsociable hours kept but the 6 panels of photos and 3 workbooks are now submitted. Just have to wait and see if I'll pass now.

Lots and lots is going on generally, and lots to think about with the prospect of moving hopefully sometime late this year or early next. Looks like if all goes according to plan my first home in the USA with be just 10 miles from downtown LA! Interesting times ahead.

Anyway I did get the chance to do a little bit of crafting over the last couple of weeks and finally finished a piece for Gill. By special request, ladies I give you ....... Dawn French!!

For Teresa ......

Apologies for being MIA! I guess I just got busy with life etc lol. Anyway I will try and do better and post some more interesting developments later. In the meantime let me share another of my fabric pieces.

I saw the original of this image in a newspaper and loved it. I had planned to do it with scrapbook paper but then as I was working on the fabric CJ thought why not try it with fabric. I was pretty happy with how it turned out!

So here is President Barack Obama!
